Home For Hope

Home For Hope

In 2006, at the age of 36, Virginia Homes’ President, Charles Ruma, had his world turned upside when he was diagnosed with testicular cancer.  Now, cancer-free, he’s vowed to do everything he can to give back to the hospital and foundations responsible for his recovery.  As a prominent homebuilder in Central Ohio, the most meaningful way for Ruma to do this was through the construction of his homes.  So that’s exactly what he’s doing.

The decision to start the Home for Hope was centered on Ruma’s objective to build homes and to donate all of the net proceeds from the sale of these homes to fund cancer research.  All proceeds are donated to The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center- Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute, in which Ruma credits the care and treatment for saving his life.

All Home for Hope projects are designed specifically around cancer prevention and a healthy lifestyle. Special features such as air and water filtration systems are used, along with low VOC paint, and formaldehyde-free carpet and insulation.

The layout of every home also features a number of healthy living components. Gourmet kitchens with high-end appliances make it easy to prepare healthy meals regularly and dedicated space for an in-home gym.

Through Home for Hope, Charles Ruma has turned his passion for homebuilding into a way to help more people affected by cancer to have the same fortunate outcome that he has had.  Each home Ruma builds not only enhances the homeowner’s lifestyle, but also delivers an invaluable message of hope.
